According to the Law no. 372/2005, an energy certificate of a building (full name: Certificate of Energy Performance) is a technical document of informative character, which certifies the energetic efficiency of a building. An Energy Certificate includes reference values stipulated by the technical regulations in force, which allow the customers to compare and assess the energy performance of a building. An Energy Certificate has attached recommendations of cost reduction by an improvement of the energy performance of the building.
The energetic performance of the building represents the actually consumed energy or the estimated energy to be consumed in order to satisfy the necessities of normal building use, which mainly include: heating, preparation of hot water for consumption, cooling, ventilation and lightning.
The energy performance of the building is determined according to a calculation methodology and it is expressed by one or several numeric indicators that are to be calculated based on several external and internal factors of the building:
- Thermal insulation,
- Technic characteristics of the building and of installations,
- Planning and positioning of the building reported to exterior climate factors,
- Sun exposure and influence of neighboring buildings,
- Own sources of energy production,
- Interior climate of the building, which influences the energy demand.
Depending on the energy consumed for heating, air conditioning, lightning, the building receives an indicative from A to G.
A represents low energy consumption
G represents high energy consumption.
